Renewing Your TIE Card
If your TIE card is about to expire, you may need to renew your residence permit first before applying for a new card. The process depends on your immigration status. If you already have long-term residence, for example, you may only need to renew the physical card.
What documents do you need to Renew Your TIE Card?
For a standard TIE renewal, you will generally need:
Form EX-17: Completed and signed.
Passport: Your valid passport.
Current TIE card: Your existing or expired residence card.
Fee receipt: Proof of payment using Modelo 790, Código 012.
Passport photo: A recent photograph meeting Spanish ID photo requirements.
Residence approval: Proof of your renewed or existing residence status, where applicable.
You may also need an updated empadronamiento (municipal registration certificate / Padron), particularly if you have changed address.
How do you renew your TIE Card?
If your residence permit needs extending, apply for that first through the relevant immigration office. Once your status is confirmed, book a fingerprinting appointment (cita previa) with the National Police, using the procedure for issuing a TIE card.
Attend with your documents and fingerprints. When your new card is ready, follow the local instructions to collect it.
Its Important to Remember: A TIE card renewal is not the same as renewing your residence permission. Check the requirements for your specific status and province before booking your appointment.
