Changing SUMA Bills in Spain

If you buy a property in Spain or change address, you may need to update the details for your SUMA bills. In parts of the province of Alicante, SUMA Gestión Tributaria collects local taxes on behalf of municipalities, including property tax (IBI) and rubbish collection charges.

What details might need changing?

Depending on your circumstances, you may need to update:

  • The name of the person responsible for paying the tax.

  • Your correspondence address.

  • Your bank account details for direct debit payments.

  • The property details linked to your tax account.

Contact SUMA

Visit the official SUMA Gestión Tributaria website to find the relevant procedure or your nearest office.

Prepare your documents

Depending on the change, you may be asked for your passport or NIE, property details, a recent tax bill, proof of ownership and your bank account details.

Update your direct debit

If you want SUMA payments taken from a different bank account, check the procedure for changing the direct debit details. Do not assume the change has taken effect until it is confirmed.

Can someone do it for you?

If you live abroad or cannot attend in person, you may be able to authorise a representative using a Power of Attorney (poder notarial). Check with SUMA which authorisation and documents are required.

You can also contact Spain Simplified to act on your behalf with power of attorney or help you appoint someone else.
