Where To Buy British Food in Quesada And Torrevieja
If you’ve lived in Spain for a while, you’ll know that there are some things you can get used to doing without.
Then there are the things you suddenly really miss.
It might be a particular biscuit, a favourite cereal, the tea you always used to buy or something as simple as a jar of sauce that you can’t seem to find in the Spanish supermarkets.
I was going past a few days ago and my friend wanted to go to the Quesada branch to get a few bits as we was going past.
Although I live close to the store I rarely go in as I dont go towards Quesada often and havent been to Food Co in a while.
Things You Forgot You Missed
This is probably the dangerous bit of shopping somewhere like The Food Co. If you’ve been living in Spain for a while, you’re used to seeing Spanish brands everywhere. When you walk into Food Co suddenly everything looks familiar again.
You will find those biscuits you like, actual nice cheese Cathedral none the less, and lots of crisps, chocolates and drinks you didn’t even realise you haven’t had in ages.
For me it was tea bags. I have tried Spanish tea brands and got bored of using 2 or 3 bags to make it taste like a weak cup of tea back home. I stopped drinking tea after a couple of months and swapped to coffee. I don’t like coffee anyway and I can’t tell if its good or bad it all tastes the same.
When any one asks if I want a tea I always ask if its with proper tea bags.
What Items Can You Buy Instore?
There’s a pretty big selection. The Food Co says its stores carry thousands of products, covering everything from everyday groceries to frozen food, snacks, sweets, drinks and household favourites.
Just walk around the aisles and you will see they are not lying. They have lots and lots of chocolate, cakes, and biscuits. You really do forget the variety we have back home and how limited you are in Spanish supermarkets. They may have something similar like the cakes and biscuits but nothing like a Mr Kiplings slice or some chocolate hobnobs.
The Freezers are where you can pick up some great home treats, from Yorkshire puddings, oven ready roasties, and real bread. Not the type that can sit on the counter for 2 weeks. Bread that actually will go mouldy in a few days if not eaten. Sounds odd to say but I didn’t know bread lasted so long before moving here. If I’m honest I don’t think I like that it does last so long.
Another thing I had forgotten about after moving over was Spanish supermarkets don’t really sell something like Robinsons squash or Ribena. I did pick some up whilst in store, not because I miss it just because I could suddenly flavour water again. Like everything in store you can buy the premium brands or you can buy say a Tesco or Waitrose own brand version.
You can also but UK size bags of crisps in the flavours we all know and not in one giant bag that you open and eat half of before you realise it. Or that’s me just being a pig.
What About The Prices?
You’re not going to find everything cheaper than in a Spanish supermarket. In fact some items like sugar and alcohol can be more expensive than any other Spanish supermarkets. Not by much but it does add up over a shop.
A lot of the food is imported, so prices are going to be higher than buying elsewhere. So shop smart if you are on a budget.
A Useful Shop If You Live Around Quesada And Torrevieja
The big draw here is you come in and buy a few bits that you miss and pick up a few basics that you maybe running low on or out of.
Or if you are on holiday you have the option to buy the brands that you like without venturing into Spanish supermarkets and have to ask where the items are that you want are.
Do Staff Speak English?
No, you don’t need to speak Spanish to the staff, nearly all are brits or speak very very good English.

What Time Is The Food Co Open And Close?
The listed opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 8am until 9pm and Sunday from 9am until 6pm. However I am not sure if like other Spanish supermarkets these times change in the winter and summer.
