Parque de las Naciones in Torrevieja
If you want somewhere quiet to walk, take the kids, get away from the busy streets for a while or avoid the heat from the Spanish sun, Parque de las Naciones is worth a visit. It’s probably the best known park in Torrevieja and is a nice place to spend an hour or two, especially if you’re with children.
About The Park Of Nations
The park is large covering more than 40,000 square metres. It’s close to the centre of Torrevieja, so it’s fairly easy to reach whether you’re staying nearby or already out exploring the city.
The park has a large lake in the middle, which is designed in the shape of the Eurasian continent, and gives the park something a little different from just another city green space.
What You Will Find Here
There are plenty of trees, plants and shaded paths, which can be particularly welcome during the hotter months. It’s not the kind of place where you need to have a plan. You can simply walk around, find a bench and sit for a while in the shade as I have many times when in the city.
One of the things that makes the park popular with families is the number of animals living there. You’ll often see peacocks, ducks, chickens, pheasants and turtles around the park. The peacocks are probably the biggest attraction, especially for children, and some of the birds very used to people being around.
There is also a playground with swings, slides (in the shape of a Dinosaur) and climbing equipment, giving younger children somewhere to burn off some energy while parents take a break in the nearby shade.
The paths around the park are easy to walk and there are benches dotted around, so it’s also a good place to slow down for a bit if you’ve been sightseeing all day.
From time to time, the park is also used for local events, fairs and celebrations. Depending on when you visit, you may come across something happening there, particularly during the spring and warmer months. In October the park also hosts the annual street food market, which is great. I have been 2 years in a row and eaten some great food and it has some really good entertainment.
Is it worth visiting?
If you’re already in central Torrevieja, it’s an easy place to add to your day. It’s handy if you’re travelling with children and need something to entertain them for an hour or two. There’s no entrance fee, and you don’t need to spend hours there for it to be worthwhile.
If you just want somewhere to sit in the shade, take a short walk or see something a little different, the park does the job.
Useful information
Opening hours: Generally open from the morning through to the evening, with longer hours during the summer. It’s worth checking locally if you’re planning your visit around a specific time.
Getting there: The park is within walking distance of the centre of Torrevieja, and there is parking in the surrounding side streets how ever there is a local school that may mean it is a little busy just before and after school finishes.
There are many buses that pass by the park depending on where you are traveling from. Your best bet if using a bus is to look at the local bus route in your area and see if it passes by. You can find bus routes and time tables here.
Dog Friendly?: There is a specific part of the park that dogs are allowed for a bit of exercise and go to the toilet. just remember to clean up after them and bring water for them.
The Park of Nations isn’t a major attraction that you need to build your whole day around, but that’s part of what makes it nice. It’s somewhere you can drop into while exploring Torrevieja, have a walk, watch the birds and sit down for a while before carrying on with your day.
